Darren’s DHD Phoenix is a performance, small-wave funboard, perfect shape to get you amped & out there (no matter how average the conditions might be). The DHD Phoenix features a fairly flat entry rocker. The rocker remains low through the guts of the board with a moderate curve through the tail. The bottom is a generous single to double concave for speed, lift & liveliness. Plenty of spiral vee is used through the double concave to help you roll this wider board on rail.
The DHD Phoenix holds plenty of foam from the stinger right out through to 2-3 inches from the rail. It then tapers down significantly to a soft medium rail (much softer / less boxy compared to their 3DX or 3DV models).
There is plenty plenty of area through the tail for lift and skate. It is then finished off with a large rounded squash tail with a lot of edge for release. The DHD Phoenix comes stock with 4x4x4 glassing. The tail features DH’s signature ‘tiger claws’ on the underside with white innegra toe patches. This combination provides the improved strength you want through the tail without compromising the flex of the board.
Run the DHD Phoenix as a thruster or as a twin + stabiliser for extra looseness and spark! Darren recommends the Phoenix at least 2 to 3 inches shorter and/or with 1 to 3 liters extra volume than a regular shortboard.
